Teak as a Material

Teak is a wood species made to be used and loved for a long time. You can find well-preserved teak dressers thanks to the naturally high oil content that makes the material so durable. Teak resists moisture, wear, and the test of time, and it only grows more beautiful with age.

The wood grows in tropical climates and has a warm, vibrant expression, with a beautiful grain that gives each piece of furniture its own character. A teak chest of drawers is a piece of furniture that brings personality and history to your home—a piece you can rely on for many years to come.

Vintage Teak Chests of Drawers

Every teak dresser has lived a life before reaching us. At Beyo Vintage, we handle our teak chests with great respect for both the material and its history. We are careful to preserve the era-specific retro style that makes many of our dressers unique.

Some dressers require a bit of care and are given new life in our workshop, while others come to us with a beautiful patina that we gently allow to remain. Traces of use are part of the story and contribute to the genuine retro feel.

Common to all our teak chests of drawers is the solid craftsmanship, the solid wood, and the characteristic silhouettes of the mid-20th century.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is furniture no longer made of teak?

Teak is used much more sparingly in furniture production today because the wood is exclusive and slow-growing. Availability is limited and regulated to protect forests, making teak both expensive and harder to source. That is why many of the teak pieces we see today are vintage.

Are teak furniture pieces valuable?

Yes, teak furniture is often highly sought after. The value lies in the durable material, the solid craftsmanship, and the timeless design. Well-preserved teak furniture—especially dressers, tables, and chairs from the mid-20th century—has a stable resale value and can even increase in value over time.

How long does teak furniture last?

Teak furniture is known for its long lifespan. Thanks to the wood's naturally high oil content and durability, teak furniture can last for several generations. It is not uncommon for teak furniture from the 50s and 60s to still be in excellent condition.

How can you tell if it is genuine teak?

Genuine teak has a warm, golden-brown tone and a distinct, vibrant grain. The wood often feels slightly oily to the touch and is relatively heavy. On older furniture, teak is usually solid or veneered onto solid wood, not particle board. If you are unsure, we at Beyo Vintage are happy to help assess the material.
